A rental car is the fastest car.
Rougher ride than I expected but it is hard to keep your foot out of it. Not sure if these pipe sounds in or the turbo is right in front of the firewall but you can definitely hear it in the cabin. My Legacy GT might as well be an electric car in comparison. I'll post up some driving footage if it's any good.
Thanks again to Skychismo for the driving route! Had a blast.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I know how to fix that

MK7 GTIs have something they call the Soundaktor mounted to the firewall to give you more sound. I didn’t like it and disabled it on mine.

Great shot of the Superstitions! You had a great sky for driving today, and a weird “cold front” for us.

Thanks! It was super easy and AZ Wilderness Brewing was the perfect stop on the way back.
I quickly realized what you meant about not crossing the centerline. Didn’t stop a bunch of bro dozers f rom passing cars which was terrifying .

So don't go with the hogzaust exhaust mod?

Interesting. The only thing I disabled was the speed limit alert since it was set at 65 and kept pinging me on the highway. Super annoying.

You can’t disable to Soundaktor without cutting wires or a 3rd party programmer. Probably not a good idea on a rental.

“Sir, I insist those wires were hanging from the dash when I picked it up."

I recall seeing video of separating a plug under the windshield wiper area to disable it. I had the dealer disable it with the software fix.

I believe VW has the turbo right by the firewall.

What route is this? Have a vested interest in finding out.

Oho! This is a the Apache Trail/Tortilla Flat/Roosevelt Lake drive. I’ve only done it once myself, a while ago, sounds like it’s time to do it again. Thanks for the tip.
I presume at this point you are out of the Phoenix area? Never met an Oppo in real life before. Would be interested in seeing those pics when you get to them.

Yeah, it’s a great drive. Might be a little tight for the C7Z!
I’ll be in Phoenix until Wednesday night if you wanna grab a beer!

Ooh. let me check my schedule and get back to you.

That is the first day drive I did when I moved to Tempe four years ago!

I’m trying to make this work - when do you depart on Wednesday? Would you be up for an early evening meet and greet?
![]() 02/19/2019 at 12:45 |

I leave early Thursday, so early evening works ! Just let me know a time and place.

AZ Wilderness Brewing Co is pretty nearby but I’m comfortable with anything in a 20 mile radius from the Loop 101/202 exchange on the south end. 5pm AZ time, w ill that work for you? I have no idea what part of town you are actually in.

That works for me, I can head there after biking South Mtn since my airbnb is in ‘Arcadia Lite’

Ok no sweat. If you'd rather meet up somewhere closer to South mountain I am fine with that too. AZ Mills mall is over that way. Can we send dms through Kinja? I can notify you if something comes up.

I don’t think you can dm through Kinja.
